Free Actress Biography
Clara Gordon Bow (July 29, 1905 – September 27, 1965) was an American actress who rose to stardom in the silent film era of the 1920s. It was her appearance as a spunky shopgirl in the film It that brought her global fame and the nickname "The It Girl." Bow came to personify the roaring twenties[1] and is described as its leading sex symbol.[2] She appeared in 46 silent films and 11 talkies, including hits such as Mantrap (1926), It (1927) and Wings (1927). She was named first box-office draw in 1928 and 1929 and second box-office draw in 1927 and 1930.[3][4] Her presence in a motion picture was said to have ensured investors, by odds of almost 2-to-1, a "safe return".[5] In January 1929, at the apex of her stardom, she received more than 45,000 fan letters.[6] After marrying actor Rex Bell in 1931, Bow ended her career in 1933 with the film Hoop-La, becoming a rancher in Nevada.
Clara Bow was born in 1905 [7] in a slum tenement in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, New York, where she was also raised.[8] Bow was the third child; the first two, also daughters, born in 1903 and 1904, died in infancy.[9] Her mother, Sarah Bow (née Gordon, 1880–1923), was told by a doctor not to become pregnant again for fear the next baby might die as well. Despite the her doctor's warning, Sarah Bow became pregnant with Clara in the fall of 1904. In addition to the risky pregnancy, a heat wave besieged New York in July 1905 and temperatures peaked around 100 °F;[10] the infant mortality rate rose to 80%.[9] "I don't suppose two people ever looked death in the face more clearly than my mother and I the morning I was born. We were both given up, but somehow we struggled back to life".[11]
Bow's parents were descended from English and Scotch-Irish immigrants who had come to America the generation before.[9] Bow said that her father, Robert (1874–1959), "had a quick, keen mind ... all the natural qualifications to make something of himself, but didn't".[11] Others, however, characterized him as unintelligent, ugly, and physically puny.[9] Robert seldom managed to hold on to a job and the family income varied drastically as a result. Between 1905 and 1923, the family lived at 14 different addresses; among them 160 Sands Street and 697 Bergen St., where Bow was born.[12] Robert was often absent, leaving his family without means to survive.[13] "I do not think my mother ever loved my father. He knew it. And it made him very unhappy, for he worshiped her, always".[11]
It was snowing. My mother and I were cold and hungry. We had been cold and hungry for days. We lay in each others arms and cried and tried to keep warm. It grew worse and worse. So that night my mother – but I can't tell you about it. Only when I remember it, it seems to me I can't live[14]
Clara's maternal grandfather was a heavy drinker who was regularly physically abusive towards his wife, who went insane.[9] Although Clara's mother Sarah was considered very attractive, her family situation limited her marriage prospects considerably.[9] In addition, at sixteen, Sarah fell from a second-story window and suffered a severe head injury. She was later diagnosed with "psychosis due to epilepsy",[15] a condition apart from the seizures that is known to cause disordered thinking, delusional ideation, paranoia, and aggressive behavior.[16]
From her earliest years, Bow learned how to care for her mother during the seizures as well as how to deal with the psychotic and hostile episodes. She said her mother could be "mean" to her, but "didn't mean to ... she couldn't help it".[11] Still, Bow felt deprived of her childhood; "As a kid I took care of my mother, she didn't take care of me".[17] Sarah worsened gradually, and when she realized her daughter was set for a movie career, Bow's mother told her she "would be much better off dead". One night in February 1922, Bow awoke to a butcher knife held against her throat by her mother. Bow was able to fend off the attack and locked her mother up. In the morning, Sarah had no recollection of the episode and was later committed to a charity hospital.[11]
Sarah Bow died on January 5, 1923. When relatives gathered for the funeral, Bow accused them of not being supportive in the past. Reportedly, her anger led her to attempt jumping into her mother's open grave.[11]
Bow attended both PS 111 and PS 9.[9] As Bow grew up she felt shy among other girls, who teased her for her worn-out clothes and "carrot-top" hair. From first grade, Bow preferred the company of boys her age, stating, "I could lick any boy my size. My right arm was quite famous. My right arm was developed from pitching so much ... Once I hopped a ride on behind a big fire engine. I got a lot of credit from the gang for that".[11] Her best friend, a younger boy named Johnny who lived in her building, burned to death in her presence after an accident. Bow's athletic ability led her to becoming a track champion in high-school. Of her purported arm strength, Louella Parsons noted, "... curiously enough, she has muscles on her arms that stand out like whip-cord".[18] Bow left school at 13 and didn't return, working at Nathan's in Coney Island after the family had moved briefly to Sheepshead Bay in 1918 before returning to Prospect Heights the next year.

Tamil Actress Biography
Divya Venkatasubramaniam (Tamil: திவ்யா வெங்கடசுப்ரமணியம்; born 3 July 1982), best known by her stage name Kanika (also spelled Kaniha),[1][2] is an Indian film actress, occasional dubbing artist, playback singer, and TV anchor. Making her debut in the 2002 Tamil film Five Star, she went on to work in other South Indian film industries, including Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada, as well. She is perhaps best known for her performances as Eashwari in her debut film Five Star, Gayathri in Varalaru - History of Godfather and Thenmozhi in Autograph. She made waves in the Malayalam film industry with back to back successful films Bhagyadevatha and Pazhassi Raja.
Divya was born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India as the second daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Venkat Subramanian, both engineers. She grew up in a typical Tamil Brahmin household in the suburbs of Madurai. She studied at TVS Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Madurai and also won accolades including the Tamil Nadu State Award for Educational Excellence in 1999.[3] She then got admitted on merit to BITS ("Birla Institute of Technology and Science"), in Pilani, Rajasthan, from where she graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree.[3]
Having developed her singing talents from her childhood, by participating in pop music and light music shows, Divya was interested in singing and related performing arts. While she was still studying, she gave stage performances as a pop singer from time to time. When she was supposed to perform at the Miss Chennai event, a beauty pageant contest, in 2001, she got to participate at the contest, after a model had backed out at the last moment.[4] Despite lack of experience, she emerged victorious at that contest,[5] which would later pave her the way for a film career.
[edit]Career
Susi Ganesan spotted her on a magazine cover page and insisted on her performing the lead female role in his second feature film. Divya eventually entered the Film industry, accepting the offer, while her name was changed to Kanika. Her debut film was the Mani Ratnam-produced Five Star (2002) with Prasanna, who made his acting debut as well, in which Kaniha portrayed a traditional village girl. She completed the entire film during her summer hoildays, since she was a student.[6]
Kanika turned down all projects that were subsequently offered to her, including films by S. Shankar and P. C. Sreeram,[6] and went on to complete her graduation. Even before she finished her graduation, she completed her Telugu debut film Ottessi Chepputunna during her winter vacations, acting under another stage name Sravanthi.[7] In regard to her performance, Idlebrain wrote: "Sravanthy looks homely in the film and suited the character. She performed well. She is good at dances as well".[8]
After completing her studies, Kanika decided to give herself a go at the Tinsel towns. She starred in the Kannada film Annavaru (2004), a remake of Mani Ratnam's Thalapathi (1991), stepping into Kannada filmdom, too. She followed the movie with a neat, cameo role in Cheran's Autograph, earning critical acclaim. Kanika next appeared in a comedy oriented role in a commercial film by K. S. Ravikumar, Aethiree along with Madhavan, Sada, in which she portrayed as a "naughty Brahmin girl".[6] Sify labelled her performance in the film as "outstanding".[9] She went on to play the female lead in Dancer opposite physically disabled Kutty,[10] following which she returned to Telugu cinema, accepting to reprise her role in the Telugu remake of Autograph, Naa Autograph, playing the same role as in the original version.[7] She proved to be an actress to reckon with in the Kannada film Sye, a remake of Tamil film Dhill. She finally ventured into Malayalam cinema as the heroine for the campus-based film Ennitum.
Later in 2006, she appeared in her biggest project till then, Varalaru, directed again by K. S. Ravikumar, in which she shared screen space with Ajith Kumar and Asin. She won plaudits for her role as a mentally disorded girl. After a two-years gap, her most recent Kannada film Rajakumari opposite Ravichandran got released, in which she again got to play the female lead role.
After her marriage, when she was supposed to have bid adieu to the film industry, Kaniha returned to the Malayalam cinema in 2009, with the films Bhagyadevatha, directed by veteran Sathyan Anthikkad and starring Jayaram and Narain as well, and Pazhassi Raja, directed by reputed director Hariharan and starring Mammootty, Sarath Kumar and Padmapriya among others. While the former one, in which she played the role of a homely Christian girl, was highly successful at the box office, the latter one, a biopic magnum opus historical film, in which she played the role of a queen opposite Mammootty. Pazhassi Raja is being considered the highest-grosser in the Malayalam film industry. Her performance in Bhagyadevatha led to her winning several awards.[11] Her rising adulation in the Malayalam industry saw her eventually sign laudable roles in the film My Big Father and Christian Brothers before she took a maternity break.
[edit]Other work
Besides acting, Kanika has ventured into other fields as well, working as a dubbing artiste, playback singer and TV host, proving to be a versatile and talented person.
[edit]Television
Even at the prime of her career, Kanika moved to "small screen", hosting a couple of TV shows, which she believed were a "refreshing change from movies". She had first hosted the second season of the popular comedy show Kalakka Povathu Yaaru on STAR Vijay in 2006, following which she had hosted the popular family based game show Mega Thanga Vettai, the annual Chutti Vikatan Children's Quiz Show both on Sun TV. Besides, she also essayed a lead role in the television serial Thiruvilayadal on Sun TV.
[edit]Dubbing and Singing
Kanika's sweet voice and perfect Tamil pronunciation made possible her venture into playback singing and dubbing. Having a vast experience and being a professional singer before turning actress, Kanika got the offer to sing the theme song of her debut film Five Star. She then turned dubbing artiste, dubbing for actresses Genelia D'Souza in Sachein, Sadha in Anniyan and Shriya Saran in Sivaji: The Boss.[12]

Tamil Actress Genelia Photos

Tamil Actress Genelia Biography
Genelia D'Souza is an Indian actress, model, and host. She has appeared in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam language films. After gaining wide attention in a Parker Pen commercial with Amitabh Bachchan, D'Souza began her acting career with Tujhe Meri Kasam in 2003. She was recognized for her role in Boys the same year, and later established herself in Telugu cinema by acting in several Telugu films during 2003–2005.
D'Souza received her first Filmfare Award in 2006 for her performance in the Telugu romantic film, Bommarillu, which earned her critical acclaim. In 2008, she gave critically acclaimed performances in Santosh Subramaniam, a Tamil remake of Bommarillu, and the Bollywood movie Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na. Having acted in several commercially successful movies in Telugu and Tamil, D'Souza has established herself as one of the leading actresses of the South Indian film industry.[1][2] In addition to movie acting, D'Souza has hosted the television show Big Switch, and is the brand ambassador of Fanta, Virgin Mobile India, Fastrack, LG Mobiles, Garnier Light, Margo, and Perk in India.[3]

Born in Mumbai[4] into a Mangalorean Catholic family,[5][6] D'Souza was raised a Roman Catholic in the Bandra suburb of Mumbai.[7] Her mother Jeanette D'Souza was formerly a managing director of the Pharma Multinational corporation (MNC), who left her job in 2004 to help Genelia with her career. Her father Neil D'Souza, is a senior official with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).[8] She also has a younger brother, Nigel D'Souza,[9][10] who works with the Bombay Stock Exchange.[11] According to D'Souza, her name "Genelia", means "rare" or "unique", and is a portmanteau of Jeanette and Neil, her mother and father's name. She is also often informally referred to as Geenu, her nickname.[12] D'Souza studied at the Apostolic Carmel High School in Bandra and later joined St. Andrew's College in Bandra to pursue her Bachelor's Degree of Management Studies.[13] She completed her degree while shooting for her first film, Tujhe Meri Kasam in 2003 and initially thought that an MNC job would suit her.[14] She liked sports and studies in college,[14] and was a state level athlete, sprinter, and a national level football player.[15]
D'Souza did her first modeling assignment at the age of 15,[7] the result of being spotted as the bridesmaid at a wedding.[14] She was selected for the Parker Pen commercial with Amitabh Bachchan, just two days before her exams, and had to shoot the next day. Initially she refused, because of her exam the next day, but the director persuaded D'Souza to shoot for the commercial.[14][16] She gained wide attention from the Parker Pen commercial with Amitabh Bachchan,[17] who said "she was good, and her expressions were spontaneous".[18] She further did a Fair and Lovely 2003 Cricket World Cup advertisement with cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth.[16]
Acting career
Debut and recognition, 2003–05
When D'Souza was offered a role in Tujhe Meri Kasam, initially she turned it down, as she was not keen to pursue a career in acting. But the crew insisted and kept contacting her for two months, and she agreed when she saw the Telugu version of the movie.[16] Tamil director, S. Shankar, was impressed with her performance in the Parker Pen commercial and decided to cast her in a leading role in his 2003 Tamil film Boys.[19] D'Souza was selected among 300 girls, who had auditioned for the movie. She signed three movies simultaneously in three different languages, Tujhe Meri Kasam (Hindi), Boys (Tamil), and Satyam (Telugu).[6]
D'Souza's professional movie career began,[20] with her Bollywood debut Tujhe Meri Kasam in 2003.[8] Indian film critic Taran Adarsh noted, "Genelia is a wonderful performer. She catches you unaware with a performance that's natural to the core."[21] The movie garnered poor box office returns,[22] and it failed to propel her career in Bollywood.[23] Following her poor debut in Bollywood, she decided to act in South Indian films.[4] Later the same year, she made her Tamil debut as the teenage girl Harini in Boys, a story about five teenagers having stereotypical teen-boy fantasies. The movie, though noted for its vulgar sexual content, was a box-office success,[24] and subsequently she started receiving Telugu film offers.[19] She left Tamil cinema for a while to concentrate on the Telugu film industry. She made her Telugu debut in 2003 as a medical student in Satyam.[25] Sify noted in their review that, "Genelia is excellent as her body language is her major asset."[26] The movie was well received,[27] and it raised her profile in the Telugu film industry.[19]
In 2004, D'Souza appeared in her second Bollywood movie, Masti. The comedy focuses on three close friends who reunite after three years, but are now married and are being harassed by their wives. D'Souza portrayed the character of one of the wives.[28] Taran Adarsh was complimentary of D'Souza's role, saying, "Amongst the wives, Genelia is the best, [...] Genelia looks the stern and demanding wife and is sure to be noticed."[29] The film fared well at the UK box office.[28] The same year, she appeared in two Telugu movies Samba,[30] and Sye,[31] both succeeding at the box-office.[32]
After appearing in her first Telugu movie in 2005, Naa Alludu, she starred in the Tamil romantic entertainer Sachein.[33] A review in The Hindu noted, "Genelia, who hardly made an impression in Boys, makes much impact in Sachein."[34] The movie evoked mixed response from audiences, but was well received with the younger generation.[35] She later appeared in the Telugu patriotic movie Subhash Chandra Bose.[36]
Turning point in South Indian films, 2006 – April 2008
The year 2006 marked a significant turning point in D'Souza's career.[37] She completed two Telugu movies in early 2006, one was the romantic comedy Happy, and the other was Raam.[38] She then portrayed the role of Haasini, a vibrant, effervescent and a happy-go-lucky young girl, in the 2006 Telugu romantic film Bommarillu. The movie, a blockbuster at the box-office,[39][40] grossed 250 million (US$4.99 million) in India,[41] and also won the 2006 Golden Nandi award.[42] Her character was well-received,[43] and garnered her the Telugu Filmfare Award for Best Actress,[13] besides Nandi Special Jury Award and Santosham Award for Best Actress.[37] Sify concluded about her acting in their review that, "The scene stealer is Genelia with her innocent looks and cute mannerisms. She does not overact and we just fall in love with her character. Genelia looks like a dream in chic skirts and is the life of the party and raises the bar of the film."[44]
Following the success of Bommarillu, D'Souza played the role of the daughter of a local don, in the Tamil gangster film Chennai Kadhal.[45] Rediff criticized her commenting, "Genelia stands up yet again to prove the point that if you are pretty and well dressed, you can get away with anything, without acting."[45] Shortly afterwards in 2007, D'Souza played the role of sister of a notorious gangster in the blockbuster Telugu movie Dhee,[46] set against a gang war backdrop.[47]
The following year, D'Souza appeared in the 2008 Telugu romantic thriller Mr. Medhavi, in which she portrayed the role of a student from Canada. The movie was successful,[48] with Rediff complimenting her performance saying, "Genelia is her effervescent self – full of joie-de-vivre and lights up the screen."[49] She made her Kannada debut in Satya In Love the same year.[50] Later, she was cast in a leading role in Santhosh Subramaniam, a Tamil remake of Bommarillu. The film also turned out to be rather successful as its predecessor.[48] Sify described D'Souza's portrayal as "the soul of the film" and the film's "biggest strength",[51] however Rediff described her character as "appears a little too good to be true."[52]
Return to Bollywood and recent work, June 2008–present
In June 2008, following a nearly five year hiatus in Bollywood, she appeared in Mere Baap Pehle Aap,[53] which failed to make profit at the box-office.[54] A Rediff review noted, "besides her apparent cuteness, brings in tons of freshness and traits to the youthful characters she chooses to play",[55] while a Sify review criticized her stating, "Genelia is sprightly but has a standard two-three expressions bank in this film."[56] She later appeared in the Telugu love story Ready alongside Ram, which was well received.[48][57] Her breakthrough performance in 2008 was through the portrayal of the role of Aditi Mahant in the blockbuster Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na, which was an economic success across India and overseas, grossing 564.1 million (US$11.25 million).[58] Her role was widely admired for her sweetness and freshness, and new style of acting, with Rediff describing her acting as a "spark that has been missing in Hindi cinema for well over a decade now".[59] In that same year, D'Souza acted in the Telugu romantic comedy Sasirekha Parinayam.[60] The movie received favorable reviews, and Sify noted in their review that, "The life of the film is definitely Genelia and she has shown the varied emotions from innocence, sadness, romance and anger in equal proportions without a hitch."[61]
In 2009, D'Souza was cast in the Hindi film Life Partner, in which she was criticized for her performance. Indian fim critic Rajeev Masand commented, "The adorable little imp from Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na has turned into a nagging harridan in this film, and how you wish she'd immediately enroll for acting lessons."[62] Her next appearance in 2009 was in the Telugu thriller Katha, which was well received,[48] and for which she won the 2009 Nandi Special Jury Award.[63] In 2010, D'Souza appeared in Chance Pe Dance and Orange, both receiving poor reviews from critics, but her Uthama Puthiran was a moderate success in Tamil.[64][65]
D'Souza had a major role in 2011, starring as the Muslim warrior princess Arackal Ayesha, in her debut Malayalam film Urumi. The film is about a fictional story happening in Kerala during the 15th century, about a boy who plots to assassinate the Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama.[66] She learned horse riding, and spent two weeks of training to use the sword, the short stick, and movements of the Dravidian martial art Kalarippayattu.[67] The movie portrayed her image makeover from typically girl-next-door roles to more serious roles.[68][69][70] Her next appearance was in the Bollywood action thriller Force, which received mixed reception from critics,[71] with Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama noting that D'Souza is strikingly sweet and subdued.[72] She played the role of a journalist in a Tamil film alongside leading actor Joseph Vijay in Velayudham, which released during Diwali 2011 and became biggest hit of the year 2011 among the highest grossing Tamil films.[73]
Future films of D'Souza include Hook Ya Crook,[74] It's My Life (a remake of Bomarillu in Hindi), and Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya.[75]
Other work and events

D'Souza was a part of Tamil director Mani Ratnam's stage show, Netru, Indru, Naalai, an event which seeks to raise funds for The Banyan, a voluntary organisation which rehabilitates homeless women with mental illness in Chennai.[76] She was one of the judges at the grand finale of Gladrags Mega Model and Manhunt 2009 contest on 28 March 2009.[77] She also walked the ramp alongside Tushar Kapoor for fashion designer Manish Malhotra at the Lakme Fashion Week 2009 on 28 March 2009.[78] On 5 April 2009, D'Souza was among several Bollywood celebrities to perform at the Pantaloons Femina Miss India 2009 finale in Mumbai.[79] In October 2009, she appeared as a showstopper for jewellery designer Farah Khan Ali on the second season of Housing Development and Infrastructure Limited (HDIL) India Couture Week, a platform created to celebrate India’s fashion heritage by showcasing the country’s leading couture designers.[80][81] On 24 October 2009, D'Souza began hosting Big Switch, a television show based on slum kids on UTV Bindass channel to reach a bigger audience.[82][83][84]
She has unveiled Spinz Black Magic deodorant on 7 October 2009 in Mumbai, and the Ceres Store retail outlet.[85] At the Chennai International Fashion Week (CIFW) in December 2009, she appeared as a showstopper for designer Ishita Singh's spring-summer indigenous collection of 2010, showcasing the best of Indian and Western dresses.[86] She also holds a Limca world record of delivering four different super hit films in four different languages, Ready (Telugu), Satya In Love (Kannada), Santosh Subramaniam (Tamil), and Jaane Tu... She was a part of online market portal eBay's 2010 "Dream House" challenge, where she transformed an empty three room apartment in Bandra into an attractive home with online shopping. She had been provided a budget of 4.5 lakh (US$9,000) and two weeks to create a look she wants with items on sale on the website.[88][89] On the occasion of Children's Day (November 14), D'Souza auctioned a few items from the apartment. All proceeds received from the auction was given to Aseema, a Non-governmental organization (NGO), which aims to provide education to underprivileged children.[90]
Popular reception
D'Souza at the eBay "Dream House" in 2010
D'Souza has been often tagged in the media as the "bubbly girl", after portraying the role of a young energetic girl in several movies, especially Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na (2008).[91] She appeared alongside Shahid Kapoor on the fourth episode of Tere Mere Beach Mein, a celebrity chat show, hosted by Farah Khan. The theme of the show was "Second Innings", since both D'Souza and Kapoor had the same history of failures initially and success later in their acting careers.[92][93] In June 2010, D'Souza was crowned as the "Brand Ambassador of the Year" at the CNBC Awaaz consumer awards, for endorsing nine brands.[3] She is now the brand ambassador of the soft drink Fanta (replacing Rani Mukherjee), the chocolate Perk (replacing Preity Zinta),[94] Virgin Mobile India (along with Ranbir Kapoor),[95] Fastrack watches and accessories,[96] LG mobiles (along with John Abraham and Abhay Deol),[97] Garnier Light fairness cream,[98] Dabur Vatika hair oil, Margo soap,[3] and Spinz deodorant.[85]
Controversies
In June 2010, she was the subject of a controversy, when a Tamil daily reported that she had attended the controversial 2010 IIFA Awards in Colombo.[99] Several Bollywood actors and the South Indian film industry had boycotted the event, over the alleged killing of Tamilian civilians at the height of the conflict between the Sri Lanka Army and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in 2009.[100] The rumours of her visit to Colombo started after her friend Ritesh Deshmukh was seen at the festival in Colombo. Immediately, various Tamil groups and Kollywood associations demanded her films to be banned.[99]
In 2011, a controversy broke out for her film Force, in a wedding sequence scene of herself and John Abraham. Sources claim that the wedding ceremony and rituals conducted were so authentic that, that they would have actually been husband and wife in real life.[101] Instead of a junior artiste, a real priest was called for the scene. Again, following the reports of Ritesh Deshmukh and D'Souza's marriage plans, the priest landed up at producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah's office to register a complaint. He insisted that the couple couldn't get married, as D'Souza has been already married to John Abraham, as all marriage rituals were observed, from wearing a mangalsutra (a sacred thread worn by Indian women as a symbol of their marriage), to exchanging garlands, and taking the seven steps around the holy fire.[102] Shah dismissed the claims as a publicity stunt.[103]
Personal life
D'Souza is deeply religious and says that, she regularly attends Sunday Mass at St. Anne's Parish (Bandra), and whenever the family is home, a part of their evening is reserved for saying the rosary together.[9] In an interview with The Times of India, she comments, "I keep a Novena every Wednesday at St. Michael’s Church in Mahim."[7] In an interview with Daily News and Analysis, she said that "My communication with God is conversational, [...] I'm God's favourite child; I believe that God has always been kind to me."[9] Her mother tongue is Konkani.[5] Tabloids repeatedly linked D'Souza romantically with Ritesh Deshmukh, ever since they starred together in their debut film Tujhe Meri Kasam in 2003.[104] They were reportedly ready to get engaged, but Ritesh's father, the then-Maharashtra Chief Minister, Vilasrao Deshmukh did not agree.[105] D'Souza later denied any rumors of a relationship with Deshmukh, and responds that she had just friendly relations with him.[17] However, the couple eventually got married on 3 February 2012, according to Marathi marriage traditions in a Hindu wedding ceremony.[106] She got married at a Roman Catholic ceremony in Bandra, at the following day.[107]

Roma Malayalam Actress Biography
Roma Asrani (born August 25, 1984) is an Indian model-turned-actress who works mainly in Malayalam-language films. She made her début in the Telugu film Mr. Errababu in 2005. She has acted in Tamil and Kannada films too.
Roma Asrani was born into a Hindu Sindhi family from Delhi, who later settled in Chennai.[1] Her father Muralidhar and mother Madhu run a wholesale jewelry shop in Chennai.[2]
[edit]Career
She made her entry into Malayalam films with the movie Notebook and became very popular after the success of the film. For her performance in Notebook she was adjudged best newcomer by Kerala Film Critics Association, Asianet, Amrita TV and Kalakeralam. Her second film July 4 (2007), however, was a flop. Her movie Chocolate (2007) with Prithviraj was a big hit, and this movie was a turning point in her career. She has also acted in a music album by the band Team Malayalee with popular singer Vineeth Sreenivasan and actor Prithviraj for the number Minnel Azhake.[3]
Roma Asrani has acted in several films in Malayalam and Tamil. Jayasurya became popular among family audiences as an anchor in musical programs on Malayalam television. He also played minor roles in films. Notable among these was the comedy artist in Aparanmar Nagarathil.
He entered the Malayalam film industry through the movie Oomappenninu Uriyadappayyan, directed by Vinayan in 2002.[2] The film launched two newcomers: Jayasurya and Indrajith. The film's advertisements featured the young actors as replacements to reigning superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal. Jayasurya played the role of a deaf and mute young man falling in love with a rich, mute young woman played by Kavya Madhavan. The film did fairly well in the box office and was remade in other South Indian languages with Jayasurya in the lead role.
The years 2002 and 2003 were the age of newcomers; the superstars seemed to be fading. Though he acted in flops like Pranaya Mani Thooval and Kattu Chembakam, he was considered a promising talent for the coming years. In 2003, he acted in Swapnakkoodu with Prithviraj and Kunchacko Boban. The film, which featured Malayali students studying in Pondicherry, became one of the rare campus hits in Malayalam. This film marked the beginning of Jayasurya's long-term pairing with Prithviraj. The duo went on to act together in a number of films. Jayasurya's next appearances were in the back-to-back mega hits Pulival Kalyanam and Chathikatha Chanthu, directed by Shafi and Rafi-Mekartin respectively. It was very rare in the Malayalam film industry to have back-to-back hits, and it seemed Jayasurya was set to be the next big star. However, the success of the films worked more for the comedian Salim Kumar.
By 2005, superstar movies came back to prominence and fewer opportunities were given to young actors. In 2006, Jayasurya and Kunchako Boban appeared in Kilukkam Kilukilukkam, a sequel to the historic hit Kilukkam. Mohanlal made a guest appearance in the film. Jayasurya acted with Mammootty in Bus Conductor. In 2007, he again played relatively minor roles with Suresh Gopi in Smart City and Kichamani MBA. Then, in the mega hit Classmates, he played the role of Satheesan Kanjikkuzhi, an aspiring student leader. The slightly negative character role opposite Prithviraj helped to rebuild his image.
Roma Ansari appeared in twenty different get-ups in the film Sankaranum Mohananum (2011)
Again, he was cast as a villain opposite Sreenivasan in Lal Jose's Arabikkatha, which was a hit. This followed villain roles in Hareendran Oru Nishkalankan and Kangaroo. He played a variety of roles in 2007–2008: the romantic lover with a comic touch in Chocolate, the serious police officer in Positive, the humorous drama scriptwriter in Shakespeare M.A. Malayalam, the small-time thief in LollyPop, the supporting role in Love in Singapore, and the young politician in Balachandra Menon's forgettable film De Ingottu Nokkiye.
In 2009, Currency portrayed him in a completely new look but was a failure at the box office. His other releases — Ivar Vivahitharayal becomes his first solo hero hit, again he played a hero in Oru Black and White Kudumbam kalabhavan mani played as his fathers role, his last release of that yearGulumal — co starred by Kunchako Boban gave a good end to a successful year in his career. other films he played that year were lollipop, love in Singapore, dr. patient, vairam, kerala cafe, robin hood, and patham nilayile theevandi.
Cocktail (2010) gave Jayasurya an uplift, and was noted as a high caliber actor. This resulted in having numerous offers in the next year. In 2011, he appeared in 20 get-ups in T. V. Chandran's fantasy film Sankaranum Mohananum.[4][5][6] The same year, he did the lead role in Beautiful which went on to become a great critical success. He played the role of a paraplegic named Stephen and was well received by audiences and critics alike, all saying he has shown the best performance till date. Janapriyan and Beautiful were his commercially successful films of the year. In an year-end report on Malayalam cinema, Deepika newspaper applauded Jayasurya for choosing right roles and chose him as the "Star of the Year 2011".[7]

Assamese Actress Biography
Tara is a given name with multiple meanings in different cultures.
It is also sometimes a nickname for Tamara, as an alternative to Tammy. In the Royal Engineers it is a common for a Sergeant Major to be referred to as Tara, after the wrestler who was a Sergeant Major and served in Burma during World War II, although the practice is now dying out.
The name is somewhat dated in the United States, being most popular during the 1970s (like Tamara), but is still very popular in Ireland and Australia. Its American popularity was probably due to Tara being the name of the family plantation in the 1939 movie Gone with the Wind. It was the name of Tara King, a character in the 1960s British television The Avengers. It was also the name of Tara Martin, a popular character on the American soap opera All My Children in the early 1970s. These characters probably contributed to the name's rise in popularity during the 1970s. In Ireland, from 2000–2005 it ranked between the 30th and 40th most popular girl's name.
The name Tara is currently accepted as being exclusively a female name in Western societies, although there have been men who carried the name (such as Tara Browne). It is also considered a female name in the east, due to its connection to several goddesses. For instance, Tara is a female Buddha in Buddhism and a goddess in Hinduism.
Born Sharada Krishnamurthy[4] in a Tamil Iyer family in New Delhi, India to T.S. Krishnamurthy, an employee of Education Ministry. She began her music training with her aunt, Mrs. Bhattacharya, who taught her Rabindra Sangeet.[3] She began her formal training in Hindustani classical music under Balram Puri, a classical singer.
At the young age of eight, Kavita won a gold medal at a music competition. Subsequently, she kept winning many such gold medals as she kept participating in the Inter-Ministry Classical Competition in New Delhi in the mid 1960s.
[edit]Performing career
At the age of nine, she got an opportunity to record a Tagore song in Bengali with the legendary Lata Mangeshkar under the auspices of the music composer and singer Hemant Kumar. Although the young Sharada was aspiring to be working with Indian Foreign Services, Kavita moved to Bombay when she was just 14 to try her luck as a playback singer in the Hindi film industry. She is an alumnus of St. Xaviers' College, Bombay from where she did her BA Honors Economics. She was also very active in the St. Xaviers' Music Group during her college days. During the annual college festival (Malhar), she accidentally met Ranu Mukherjee, the daughter of Hemant Kumar. Ranu took the initiative of reintroducing Kavita to her father.[4] He was impressed by her grounding in music, so he began using her as a singer during his live performances. In one such performance, playback singer Manna Dey spotted her and employed her to sing advertisement jingles. Through her aunt's strong contacts, she met Jaya Chakravarthy, the mother of actress Hema Malini,[4] who later took the initiative of introducing Kavita to the music director Laxmikant (one half of the composer duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal) in late 1976.
[edit]Playback singing
Laxmikant gave her an option to work as a dubbing artiste or a career in playback singing later. Kavita chose the former and impressed Laxmikant with her extremely strong grasp of Hindustani classical music. Initially, she used to record songs and cut demos of songs intended for singers like Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. In her struggling phase, she received the patronage of music composers Laxmikant—Pyarelal, who backed her so strongly that she was labelled as a singer exclusively working with them which gave many music directors an excuse to avoid working with her.
In 1980, she first sang the song, "Kaahe Ko Byaahi" in the film Maang Bharo Sajana, which featured her singing in her own voice. Unfortunately, the song was dropped from the final cut of the film. In 1985, her career took off with her first major hit, "Tumse Milkar Na Jaane Kyon" from the Hindi film Pyaar Jhukta Nahin. Post the success of the song, it opened up various opportunities beyond the Laxmikant-Pyarelal camp. However, "Hawa Hawaii" and "Karte Hain Hum Pyaar Mr. India Se", two popular songs from the equally popular movie Mr. India (1987), proved to be a turning point in her career. (The songs were composed by music composers Laxmikant-Pyarelal, the latter being a duet with Kishore Kumar and lip-synced on screen by actress Sridevi). Her collaboration with Laxmikant-Pyarelal produced several hits.
The 1990s thrust Kavita to being known as one of the leading female playback singers. Her performance as a singer in the film 1942: A Love Story, composed by R.D. Burman won her a lot of popular acclaim. She went on to work with several music directors of Hindi films of the 1990s, such as Anand-Milind, A. R. Rahman, Ismail Darbar, Nadeem-Shravan, Jatin Lalit, and Anu Malik. During her stint as a playback singer, she sang duets with the leading male singers of her times, from Kishore Kumar and Suresh Wadkar to Kumar Sanu, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, Udit Narayan, and Sonu Nigam. Her female duets mostly have been with Alka Yagnik, Anuradha Paudwal, and Sadhana Sargam.
Post her marriage to violinist Dr. L. Subramaniam in Bangalore on 11 November 1999, Kavita got extremely selective and cut down on her film singing. She started expanding her artistic range to areas which were never explored. She was the main featured soloist in the Global Fusion album released by Warner Bros., featuring musicians from five continents. As she actively started exploring fusion music, Kavita travelled around the world including to the US, UK, Europe, Africa, Australia, the Far East, the Middle East, and South America. She performed in concert halls including Royal Albert Hall in London, The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.., Madison Square Garden, The Lincoln Center in New York, the Zhongshan Music Hall in Beijing, The Esplanade in Singapore, The Putra Jaya World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur, and Gewandhaus Leipzigm.
Although primarily a playback singer, Kavita has sung with orchestras as a soloist; she collaborated with Western artists from jazz, pop and classical fields. She has lent her voice for many ghazal and devotional music albums. Both as a fusion music singer and as a playback singer, Kavita has performed throughout India.
She became the screen voice of some of the famous Bollywood actresses like Shabana Azmi, Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit, Manisha Koirala and Aishwarya Rai.
